Windows 10 Insider Preview Dev Channel Build 21296.1010 (KB4602812) Released by Microsoft during January 2021. Microsoft has announced the release of  Windows 10 Insider Preview Build 21296 (RS_PRERELEASE) to Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel. All insiders in the Dev Channel can avail this Build. All Insiders in the Dev Channel will now receive the same build going forward.

However Microsoft has clarified that this update does not include anything new and is only for test our servicing pipeline. Here are its  important changes, Improvements, Fixes and Known Issues: –

The following are the changes and improvements of Windows 10 Insider Preview Dev Channel Build 21296.1010 (KB4602812) released on 21 January 2021 by Microsoft: –

  • Microsoft is starting to roll out an update to converged clipboard history design (WIN + V) so that it could be support pinning, unpinning, deleting, and syncing individual entries. Microsoft has also asked the valuable feedback on the subject from the Windows insider users.
  • Now users can create or manage storage spaces within settings, Microsoft has also intimated that they are working on it and asked the feedback from the users.

Fixes

  1. There were some problems in launching of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War. Microsoft has fixed them and advised the users to update their games to apply the fix.
  2. As we all know, to open the Xbox Game bar, we press Win + G shortcut key. But sometimes it was launching automatically without pressing shortcut key. Microsoft has fixed this issue.
  3. Some users having an issue regarding PC unresponsive while launching of Xbox Game Bar. Microsoft has fixed this issue.
  4. Microsoft has fixed an issue resulting in the Program Compatibility Assistant sometimes unexpectedly taking up a large amount of CPU resources in the last few flights.
  5. An issue, while mounting ISOs, esplorer.exe hanging also resolved.
  6. An issue where the Windows Security app might show both a check for updates button and link at the same time, now resolved by Microsoft.
  7. Microsoft also fixed the issue causing some Insiders to experience rendering / graphic issues after resizing certain app windows.
  8. After installation of Build 21292.1010, x64 emulation on ARM64 had broken. You can now restore x64 emulation on ARM64 through Windows Inside Preview Dev Channel Build 21296.1010 (KB4602812).
  9. For Insiders using x64 apps on ARM64, there is an updated preview of the ARM64 C++ redistributable (version 14.28.29812) now available to install from https://aka.ms/arm64previewredist. This updated redist adds vcruntime140_1.dll and fixes crashes occurring in a number of CAD applications.

Known issues

  • Microsoft announced that they are working on a fix for an issue Insiders have reported where certain games like State of Decay 2, or titles from the Assassin’s Creed franchise, may hang or crash when launching.
  • You may face an issue of network while updating this Build if you are using 32-bit system. Microsoft advised to wait till the issue be resolved at their end.
  • If you are a Miracast user, you may experience very low frame rates through this build.
  • Microsoft also investigating reports of the update process hanging for extended periods of time when attempting to install a new build.
  • There may be a issue of start menu layout. Microsoft team is investigating an issue impacting the reliability of Start and other modern apps, which started in the previous flight.
  • If you want to enable Aero Shake which is disabled in this build, go through the following path in Regisry. You will have to create a new DWORD entry named DisallowShaking with a value of 0: –
    • HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced.
  • Microsoft also ensured that Live previews for pinned sites aren’t enabled for all Insiders yet, so you may see a grey window when hovering over the thumbnail in the taskbar. We’re continuing to work on polishing this experience.
  • Microsoft also working on enabling the new taskbar experience for existing pinned sites. In the meantime, you can unpin the site from the taskbar, remove it from the edge://apps page, and then re-pin the site.

Known Issue of News and Interests

  • Upgrading to this build will cause your news and interests taskbar setting to be reset to “Show icon and text”. This is fixed going forward.
  • Sometimes you can’t dismiss the news and interests flyout with pen.
  • News and interests uses more taskbar space on the left than expected.
  • The taskbar button can show stale information each time the user signs into their Windows session.
  • The news and interests flyout shows content in a single column before quickly switching to double column.
  • Text in taskbar button can look pixelated in high resolution screens.
  • The taskbar context menu and news and interests overlap.
  • In certain circumstances, news and interests uses 100% of CPU when first launched.
  • Attempting to share content dismisses the flyout.
  • [ARM64] Insiders who installed the preview version of the Qualcomm Adreno graphics driver on the Surface Pro X may experience reduced brightness of the display. You will find this issue in a future update.

IMPORTANT Build Expiration Notice

Older builds in the Dev Channel will be expiring on January 31, 2021. If you are on Build 20262 or earlier, please be sure to update to the newest build available in the Dev Channel to avoid getting into a bad state.
